However, the Milei plan is specifically tailored to meet the unique economic problems facing Argentina, including inflation and budgetary uncertainty.

In response to Gabor Gurbacs, former director of digital asset strategy at VanEck, who said “Bitcoin is for everyone” in response to Milei’s congratulatory tweet, Milei issued a comment. Milei pledged that his administration would allow unrestricted competition for Bitcoin as well as other monetary units such as British Thermal Units (BTU) and West Texas Intermediate (WTI).
“There will be free currency competition, so you will be able to utilize Bitcoin without any concerns. You can also use other quantities, such as WTI or BTU, whatever is most relevant for your business.” It is more accounting-related; it is resolved using the functional currency method,” he stated.
Milei’s comments can be seen differently, as they were influenced by the government of Nayib Bukele in El Salvador, which allowed Bitcoin to circulate freely. However, Argentina’s background is slightly different from El Salvador’s.
The nation is also facing challenges from past inflation as well as the unpredictability of cryptocurrency taxes. Furthermore, stablecoins are clearly preferred as a payment method in Argentina.
The Milei administration also faced criticism
The Milei administration has also received criticism. Milei received a scathing response from the cryptocurrency community in the first quarter of 2024. This included El Salvador in response to Milei’s decision to give in to pressure from the Financial Action Task Force. The crypto community chastised Milei for enacting legislation requiring strict control of virtual asset service providers.
Nevertheless, given the current high rate of inflation and uncertainty in the economy, Argentina’s opening up to free currency competition could have a significant impact on the country’s economy. However, the approval and implementation of these measures will have to wait for the upcoming months.
